How to get involved
The organ does more than accompany the choir and lead the singing of hymns in church services; it has been the sound of the local community for nearly 150 years and part of key moments for generations of Fletching families - weddings, funerals and christenings - not to mention choral concerts and organ recitals in aid of local charities, such as Family Support Work and Blind Veterans UK.
This is a project for the whole community and so we want to give everyone a chance to get involved. You can help in a number of ways:
Discovering more about Fletching’s organ and how it works: there will be open organ events where you can see displays and videos on the history of the pipe organ, how it developed over the centuries and how it works. There will be demonstrations where you can get up close and even try it for yourself.
Attending one of the concerts or other events: following the launch event in May there will be a programme of events:
On 20th June the local school will be taking part in Orgelkids workshops, and the previous evening we’ll run an introductory evening session so that adults get a chance to experience it too.On 14th September there will be a special candle-lit concert when violinist Charlotte Scott and Friends will perform Vivaldi's timeless classic, The Four Seasons.
In April , just before the work starts, there will be a final recital in the series ‘A Very English Organ’ focusing this time on the lighter music of the 20th century organ repertoire.
When the work is complete, we will celebrate with a special recital by leading concert organist, Daniel Moult (presenter and performer on the recent DVD set ‘The English Organ.’) and a service of rededication with the bishop.
Full details of upcoming events will be published in the News section.
Helping fund the work by sponsoring a pipe or another part of the organ: you will have chance to make a very direct contribution by sponsoring a part of the organ, from pipes, to keys, to the bellows and the electrics. You can download the sponsorship brochure and the sponsorship request form.
Displaying a poster or spreading the word: if you have a suitable poster site it would wonderful if you could sign up to display posters for the various project events. If not, then talking to your friends about it can be even more effective. Invite them to join you at one of the events
Simply donating to the project fund: you can donate online by using the DONATE button. Alternatively, if you prefer you can simply email the project using the contact form and they will let you know how to donate.
